CDMX, My Way
An easy, thoughtful itinerary with (or without) kids — with folk art, lots of colors, a little chaos, and the kind of places I only share with close friends.
Hello from Marseille,
I’m just back from Mexico (Again) — Yes, I know — I’m often just back from Mexico. It’s been a lot recently, partly because of our house project, Monte LALALA, which finally opened its doors. This trip was different though.
For the first time, my husband and kids came with me to see the house we’ve been dreaming about (and troubleshooting) for years. After so many meetings with architects, builders, co-owners, pigment tests, and budget tweaks, it felt surreal to simply be there. And honestly? It was better than I imagined. Monte LALALA is perched above the Pacific, surrounded by nature, sunsets, and an endless soundtrack of crashing waves. We swam, explored, rested, and discovered so much to do as a family in the area — it finally became what it was always meant to be: a place to be together. (You can now rent the house on Airbnb here)
Then came something I’d been craving — a few days with my kids in Mexico City. I lived in CDMX for a decade in my 20s, when my world looked completely different. Back then I was a solo French chica in her mid-twenties, living in La Roma, working in Marketing, falling in love with street tacos and street life. The city was chaos and magic. Now, two decades later, I was there as a mother of two young children (3 and 6). And I wasn’t sure how it would feel.
But it worked. My kids loved it. I designed a little itinerary just for us — slow-paced, creative, curious. We explored parks, watched squirrels, ate mangos with chili, rode a tuk-tuk, and fell into the world of folk art and ancient history. I’ve often been asked, “What should I do in Mexico City with kids?” And until now, I didn’t have a real answer. Now I do — and I’m sharing it here.
This downloadable three-day itinerary is full of personal picks: places I’ve known for years, places that surprised me, and places that felt just right for a new kind of traveler — curious, mindful, family in tow or not. You’ll find:
A thoughtfully designed 3-day itinerary that works with or without kids
Where to see nature in the middle of the city
My favorite shops for handmade Mexican art and folk craft
Family-friendly accommodations that are tested and loved
A perspective that’s personal, slow, and a little off the radar
here you won’t find: a list of restaurants, bars, trendy shops (you’ll find those elsewhere)
I’ve chosen to keep these guides just for paid subscribers — not because I want to gatekeep, but because I want to preserve the places that still feel special. So many corners of the world have been swallowed by mass tourism and social media trends. This is my way of protecting a few gems and sharing them with a small circle of people who care about the same things I do: authenticity, slowness, nature, craft, and the beauty of wandering without shouting it from the rooftops.
Thank you for being here. I hope you love this one. And if you end up exploring CDMX with (or without) kids — I’d love to hear what you discover.
